‘Spice Girl’ Mel C reveals how husband Chris Dingwall proposed during Mallorca trip
Melanie “Mel C” Chisholm is letting fans in on how her husband, Chris Dingwall, proposed to her during a trip to Mallorca last summer.
The Spice Girls singer, 52, recently revealed in an interview that the surprise proposal began with the couple finishing a long dinner with a tasting menu and wine pairing at their hotel.
“We’d had the tasting menu with the wine pairing, so the meal seemed to go on forever,” she told Vogue. “Even the staff were saying, ‘You’re nearly there!'”
After dinner, the couple returned to their hotel suite. Mel C said she was “a bit drunk and a bit full” when she opened the door and found the room lit with candles.
“It was beautiful, just the two of us,” she said. “He couldn’t believe I was surprised, but I really was.”
The proposal came a year before the couple married. They first had a legal ceremony in Australia before celebrating with family and friends in Cumbria, England, on July 18.
For the wedding, Mel C wore a dress borrowed from fellow Spice Girl Victoria Beckham.
Beckham said she offered the dress after Mel C revealed the one she had ordered no longer fit and there wasn’t enough time to alter it before leaving for Australia.
Mel C said it meant a lot to have Beckham at the wedding.
“Having Victoria there every step of the way was very special,” she said. “And I just love her clothes.”
The singer also said she never dreamed much about getting married because she was focused on her career.
“I was always focused on performing,” she said. “I got to a point where I didn’t think marriage would be part of my story.”
She met Dingwall on the dating app Raya before their first date in November 2023.
